Dr. Helena Guarda, MD, is a board certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Suffolk, Virginia who is committed to offering transgender surgery services as part of her LGBT-friendly surgery practice. She performs Top Surgery in Virginia, MTF Breast Augmentation, Body Sculpting and Facial Feminization surgeries. Dr. Guarda is excited to share this expertise with the transgender community in Virginia, from Richmond, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, as well as those coming from out of state, including North Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Dr. Guarda received her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and went on to complete both general and plastic surgery residencies, as well as fellowship training in microsurgery, at Louisiana State University. She is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (2002 and re-certification in 2012) and maintains memberships in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Dr. Guarda’s transgender patients are often referrals from other patients, as well as gender therapists, endocrinologists and family doctors in Virginia and North Carolina.

Dr. Guarda performs surgeries at Bon Secours Health Center at Harbor View in Suffolk, Virginia, Sentara Ocici Hospital (Suffolk) and Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center (Portsmouth). She is also affiliated with Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Guarda practices informed consent; a letter from a therapist recommending surgery is sometimes required.
Financing & Insurance
Dr. Guarda accepts cash, credit cards, certified check, and Care Credit. She also accepts insurance and Medicare. Medicaid is not accepted at this time.
