Dr. Paul Mittermiller, MD, is a board-certified craniofacial plastic surgeon in Los Angeles who specializes in gender-affirming facial surgery. He is one of the few plastic surgeons in the U.S. with specialty training in craniofacial and Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS). Dr. Mittermiller has been actively involved in research to advance the field of facial surgery, and his published peer-reviewed research has gained recognition from prestigious journals, including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Education and Training
Dr. Mittermiller earned a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University. Prior to starting medical school, he lived in Germany, where he interned with a surgical robotics group. He returned to the U.S. to attend medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, and subsequently completed his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency at Stanford University. He completed fellowship training in Craniofacial Surgery at New York University. During his fellowship, Dr. Mittermiller participated in the world’s first successful face and double hand transplant, led by Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez, and also underwent specialty training in Facial Feminization Surgery. He returned to Los Angeles to work alongside Dr. Kyle Keojampa, a world-renowned craniomaxillofacial surgeon who performs a high volume of FFS surgeries.
