Education and Training

Dr. Kochuba earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, graduating Cum Laude in the top ten of his class and gaining election into Alpha Omega Alpha. During medical school, he volunteered with the Hoya Clinic, Hands-On DC, and DC Central Kitchen.

He completed his general surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, followed by plastic surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), the nation’s top-ranked plastic surgery residency. He later pursued an ASAPS-endorsed aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, training under renowned surgeon Dr. James Zins.

Consultations with Dr. Kochuba

Dr. Kochuba offers both in-person and virtual consultations. The fee is $100, applied toward surgery costs. Wait times are typically 2–5 weeks for a consultation and 3–6 weeks for surgery dates.

About 10% of his patients are transgender or nonbinary. Austin-Weston is known for gender-affirming practices, including inclusive intake forms, clear policies for updating names and pronouns, cultural competency training for staff, and a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination. Surgery Requirements

  • Medical clearance (patient-dependent)
  • Smoking cessation at least 1 month before surgery
  • Not currently pregnant

Additionally, Dr. Kochuba follows WPATH selection criteria, which require:

  • Hormone therapy (for some procedures)
  • One or two referral letters from a qualified mental health professional that include:
    • Patient’s general information
    • Psychosocial assessment and diagnoses
    • Duration of the physician–client relationship
    • Surgical criteria explanation with a brief description of the clinical rationale supporting the request
    • Documentation of informed consent
    • Statement that the mental health professional is available for coordination of care (meaning they can be contacted by the surgeon or care team if questions arise about the assessment or support)
