Facial Feminization.
Gishen, K., Mendelsohn, A., Lee, J. (2024). In: Thaller, S.R., Cohen, M.N. (eds) A Comprehensive Guide to Male Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. Springer, Cham.
As gender affirmation surgery becomes more prevalent, the importance of facial reconstruction has been highlighted as a key step in the process for many transitioning patients. We are finally entering an era in which transgender care is available and appropriately tailored. In order for surgeons to best care for this patient population, they must have a keen understanding of both the obvious and more subtle differences of the male and female facial construct. With that understanding, they can then address the areas of concern that are unique to each patient. In this chapter, we outline the authors’ approach to facial feminization.

The Male Face.
Gishen, K., Ozaki, W. (2024). In: Thaller, S.R., Cohen, M.N. (eds) A Comprehensive Guide to Male Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. Springer, Cham.
Facial sexual dimorphism in human beings is an important concept for all reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgeons to understand. To provide appropriate care to patients, the surgeon needs to have a strong grasp of the defining features of the male face from its bony framework to the overlying soft tissue structure. Only with such understanding can the surgeon enhance or soften classically “masculine” features to best fit the patient’s goals and gender identity.
