Pioneering Specialist in Facial Feminization Surgery and Co-Founder of Facialteam
Dr. Luis Capitán, MD, PhD, OMFS, is a distinguished surgeon specializing in Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) and serves as Co-Founder and Co-Director of Facialteam—an internationally recognized leader in facial gender-affirming surgery, known for its advanced techniques and patient-centered approach.
Dr. Capitán earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Granada in 2000. He completed a demanding five-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, earning board certification through Spain’s highly selective MIR program in 2006. That same year, he completed a Master’s Degree in Tissue Engineering.
Driven by a passion for complex facial reconstruction, Dr. Capitán pursued further specialization in Orthognathic and Craniofacial Surgery. He completed fellowships at the Institute of Maxillofacial Surgery and Implantology at Centro Médico Teknon in Barcelona and the Unit of Craniofacial Surgery and Dentofacial Deformities at Morriston University Hospital in Wales, UK.
Since 2007, Dr. Capitán has focused exclusively on Facial Feminization Surgery. In partnership with Dr. Daniel Simon, he has performed over 2,000 FFS procedures and has been instrumental in the development of innovative surgical techniques that have helped define modern FFS standards.
He is also a contributing author to several influential medical publications on facial gender-affirming procedures.
