Dr. Kavanagh is a Reconstructive Urologist certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. After medical school, he completed a urology residency at the University of British Columbia in 2013, then obtained a masters degree in epidemiology of public health at Harvard University. Dr. Kavanagh has completed surgical sub-specialty fellowships in both female pelvic floor reconstructive surgery and male urethral reconstructive surgery. Dr. Kavanagh received training in gender-affirming surgeries in 2018 from Dr. Curtis Crane, in Austin, Texas. He has also received additional training at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.
