Dr. Sarah Eidelson

Fellowship-Trained Gender Surgeon in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Sarah Eidelson, MD, is a highly skilled and compassionate plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in gender-affirming surgery procedures. With over 11 years of surgical training and experience, she is among the few fellowship-trained gender-affirming surgeons in the United States. Dr. Eidelson offers a comprehensive suite of procedures including top and bottom surgeries, body contouring, and facial feminization surgery, all grounded in a patient-centered approach. She joined Dr. Praful Ramineni at District Plastic Surgery in Washington, D.C. in 2025.

Education and Training

Dr. Eidelson earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami in 2014. She completed a rigorous 7-year General Surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital, the second-largest public hospital in the U.S., where she gained extensive training across surgical oncology, breast, vascular, bariatric, colorectal, transplant, burn, endocrine, and trauma surgery. Much of her trauma experience was at the Ryder Trauma Center, one of the nation’s busiest.

Following this, Dr. Eidelson was accepted into the highly competitive independent Plastic Surgery residency program at the University of Southern California. During this time, she trained in all major subspecialties of plastic surgery, including microsurgery, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, general and breast reconstruction, and gender-affirming procedures. Her cosmetic surgery experience includes mentorships with world-renowned experts in Beverly Hills, refining her techniques in facelift, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, and full-body aesthetics.

She completed a fellowship in gender-affirming surgery at GRS Montréal under Dr. Pierre Brassard, where she performed over 500 gender-affirming surgeries.

Research and Awards

Dr. Eidelson has a strong background in academic research and public health. She completed a 2-year research fellowship in the Division of Trauma and Critical Care while simultaneously earning a Master of Science in Public Health. Her research contributions include over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and 75 abstracts presented at national conferences.

Feminizing Surgery Procedures

Dr. Eidelson provides a wide range of feminizing surgical procedures including facial feminization (hairline correction, forehead recontouring, brow lift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, lip lift, chin and jaw recontouring, tracheal shave), breast augmentation, buttock augmentation, body sculpting, orchiectomy, vulvoplasty, and vaginoplasty (both penile inversion and peritoneal techniques). Her extensive training and patient-first approach make her especially attuned to the nuanced needs of transfeminine patients.

Masculinizing Surgery Procedures

For transmasculine and nonbinary patients, Dr. Eidelson offers top surgery (double incision, keyhole, peri-areolar, inverted-T, and buttonhole techniques), body masculinization, facial masculinization, vaginectomy, mons resection, and other customized masculinizing procedures. Her goal is to provide natural-looking results that affirm each patient’s identity.

Consultations with Dr. Eidelson
Consultations are available in-person, by phone, or virtually. The consultation fee is typically covered by insurance copay. Approximately 75–95% of Dr. Eidelson’s patients are transgender, and her practice is deeply committed to gender-affirming care, with staff sensitivity training and inclusive intake forms in place.

Surgery Requirements
Dr. Eidelson is a Member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health and follows WPATH guidelines for surgery. You will need to provide a letter of recommendation from a qualified mental health provider. (If using insurance, your insurer may require two letters and additional documentation.)
