Dr. Adam Bonnington, MD is a highly skilled obstetrician-gynecologist in San Francisco who is passionate about working with underrepresented patient populations and has a particular interest in caring for transgender and gender expansive individuals. Dr. Bonnington joined MoZaic Care as a Surgical Associate in 2020 and performs Vaginoplasty, Orchiectomy and Hysterectomy.
Dr. Bonnington earned a bachelors degree in General Biology with a minor in Women’s Studies at the University of Michigan. His dedication to reproductive health began when he was as an undergraduate student and worked with reproductive justice organizations. He subsequently obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2015 and completed a 4-year residency at the University of California – San Francisco in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences.
Dr. Bonnington trained in gender-affirming surgeries under Dr. Heidi Wittenberg. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the San Francisco Gynecological Society.
Dr. Bonnington performs the following Gender Affirming Surgery procedures:
- Vaginoplasty – Penile Inversion, Peritoneal Pull Through, Vaginoplasty repair surgeries, Vulvoplasty.
- Orchiectomy
- Hysterectomy
- Vaginectomy
Dr. Bonnington performs gender-affirming surgeries at the Center of Excellence for Gender Confirmation Surgery at Greenbrae Surgery Center, BonAir Surgery Center, California Pacific Medical Center and Saint Francis Medical Center.
Surgery Requirements
Dr. Bonnington follows WPATH guidelines for surgery:
- You will need to provide two referrals from qualified mental health professionals.
- A letter from your hormone specialist stating you have been on 12 months of continuous hormones, unless clinically contraindicated.
- Minimum age of 18 as eligibility to undergo irreversible genital surgery procedures.
