Vulvoplasty
Vulvoplasty, or Zero Depth Vaginoplasty, is an option for those who are higher-risk surgical candidates, do not desire penetrative vaginal intercourse, or physically cannot or choose not to maintain the long-term dilation associated with Vaginoplasty. The external appearance is the same for both full-depth and zero-depth Vaginoplasty; the difference is that those who undergo Vulvoplasty do not receive a vaginal canal. However, in many cases, a shallow vaginal dimple can be constructed (“shallow-depth Vaginoplasty.”) Operative times and risks to adjacent structures such as the rectum are decreased. Because no vaginal canal is created, pre-operative hair removal of the shaft and scrotum is not necessary.
